Ditka is a registered Cairnese hybrid dog (Havanese / Cairn Terrier mix), shown here at 8 months old.

Description

The Cairnese is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Cairn Terrier and the Havanese. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.

"This is Cooper. He was 11-weeks-old when I took this photo of him. He likes to have his picture taken. He is quite a ham. Cooper's mom is a Cairn Terrier and his father is Havanese. Cooper can be a little rascal as he chases around our cat and gets into wrestling matches with him but then he will snuggle up next to the cat and they will have their naps together. Cooper is very attached to his humans and is always sure to be close by at all times."
