Miles Davis the Cock-a-Tzu (Cocker Spaniel / Shih Tzu mix breed dog) at 1 year old and 15 pounds—"Miles has the sweetest disposition on the planet and picked up on potty training very quickly. He is sensitive and protective, great with children too! Miles has the Cocker hair and the Shih Tzu under-bite. Miles also has big cocker ears and paws."
The Cock-A-Tzu is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Cocker Spaniel and the Shih-Tzu. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.
This is my dog Tornado, who is a Cocker Spaniel and Shih Tzu mix at 1 1/2 years old, weighing in at 22 lbs. full grown.
"This is my Cock-A-Tzu puppy named Pippin at 12 weeks old. He is a very sweet-natured puppy—cheeky and has the Cocker trait of following you wherever you go. He’s easy to train—so far—learns commands very quickly with the use of a clicker."
"Snickers is a very energetic puppy who quite possibly might be part rabbit. He can jump on and off the sofa, the coffee table, and our nearly waist-high bed. His next goal of achievement is to jump on and off the counter top, as he can only reach the edge at this time, and he is dreaming of the plate of bacon resting at the top.
"Snickers likes playing fetch with his rawhide bones, playing with his brother Rocky (a Cavalier King Charles puppy), playing with my children Cassidy, Maggie, Vaughn and Steele, and taking warm baths and showers. He has cat-like qualities in that sometimes he will lick and clean himself, as will his brother Rocky."

Hannah the Cock-A-Tzu at 1 year old
"Hannah at 11 months old watching TV with her best pal, a Donskoy Sphynx cat. Hannah the Cock-A-Tzu shows more of the Cocker Spaniel side with the color from a Shih Tzu. Her mom is a black Cocker Spaniel and her father is a red/white Shih Tzu. She looks more like a midget Cocker Spaniel or a Cocker Spaniel / Dachshund mix but I got her from a breeder in Kansas with papers; so for sure she is a Cock-A-Tzu. Hannah is such a little diva and a sweetheart. Shows the best of her breeds and a joy to have around. Hannah doesn't shed her coat."
