"This is Doofus, so named because he was a real doofus as a puppy. In these photos he is two years old, weighs in at 61 pounds (28 kilograms) and is 18 inches (46 centimeters) tall at the shoulders. He is a loveable and well-disciplined boy, and will sulk for weeks if he does something wrong. He loves children, which is great as we have six of them, and has been a foster father to some kittens that my cat gave birth to. We also had Doofus's sister for a while and she seemed to fit into the "hard to train" category, whereas Doofus learned very quickly and is still to this day very eager to please me. His sister Bella is also a very tall Staffordshire Bull Terrier, but due to her wanting to be alpha female we ended up giving her to another family where she could rule the roost. She chewed everything including sunglasses, mobile telephones, leather shoes, pulled washing off the line, dug holes in the garden and could jump a six-foot fence. I have since heard that the two other females from the same litter and the three females from the subsequent litter were all the same. The one and only other male from the second litter is exactly like my Doofus; very laid back and docile. I found with training Doofus, he would do anything for a "Schmacko" or a dried pig’s ear. In no more than a fortnight, I could get him to beg, drop, sit, roll over, dance, shake hands, give a "high five" and stay. He will also, very gently, take food offered from my two-year-old's hand or mouth. I love Staffies and their big "watermelon smiles"; they are the most loveable dogs I have ever seen."

I brought you home today, away from that cold place that smells like death
I wrapped you tenderly today in your blanket and whispered "I love you"
I picked flowers today that the children spread over your prone body
I buried you today, in the sunshine and garden that you so loved
I cried today over your grave and I will grieve for you my friend
I remember today the love you gave so unconditionally
I will remember you today and forever. Rest in peace, my love.
We'll meet again.
