The American Leopard Hound is not recommended for apartment life. It is bred for work and will be happiest with a job to do.
When not hunting the American Leopard Hound needs to be taken on a daily walk, jog, hike or run. In addition, it will enjoy running free in a fenced-in yard or safe, open area.

This breed is easy to groom. An occasional combing and brushing is all that it needs. Bathe only when necessary. This breed is an average shedder.
The American Leopard Hound is one of the oldest of the treeing breeds. Its exact origins are unknown.
