Emma the Border Chow (Border Collie / Chow Chow mix breed dog) at 2 years old—"Emma has the mind of the Border Collie. Smart as can be. Very energetic and loves people, almost too much. But she knows when to be protective. She has been crate trained since she was little and it went smoothly. Emma also has a bad habit of getting your fingers in her mouth, never bites but it spoils people that don't know her. She knows a variety of tricks like playing dead, sitting pretty and knows the difference between her left and right paws. She loves playing aggressively with my parents dog (in a good way) but will also play gentle with puppies and kittens. She loves fetch and tug of war. As you can tell she is a high energy dog. But she is also happy to stay by your side when your sick. She has been easy to train and wants to please you. She knows when I'm disappointed in her so discipline is easy as well. She is not a dog for an inexperienced owner. With consistent training she has become a wonderful dog. I love my baby girl."
The Border Chow is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Border Collie and the Chow Chow. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.
