Description

The Carkie is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Cairn Terrier and the Yorkshire Terrier. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.

"Desmosedici (aka Desi) has been our sweet, attentative little girl for 5 years. She is the perfect cuddle buddy and loves tummy rubs. Always quick to play a good game of catch, she also loves curling up beside us when we read, watch movies and go to bed. She has a stubborn streak though which initially caused issues with training (sit, shake, etc). Potty training was a breeze and her calm demeanor tends to help her as a therapy dog."

Miss Nelly the Carkie (Cairn Terrier / Yorkie hybrid dog) at 7 years old—"We rescued her from the local shelter. Her previous home was an abusive one. Nelly was a severe submissive peer when we got her.... Within 24 hours of love, affection, and absolutely no comments on boo-boo's, the peeing stopped. Now the only time it happens is if someone comes to the door that she doesn't know. Unfortunately Nelly has developed OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder); we have her on medication, a lot of love, a lot of training (the only thing she knew was sit) and she is getting better fast."

"Max the Carkie (Cairn / Yorkie mix breed dog) at 7 months old—Max recently had a haircut. His hair now is unusual in that it seems to have highlights, many people comment on it."
