Nikita the Norwegian Elkhound / German Shepherd mix breed dog
The Elkhound Shepherd is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Norwegian Elkhound and the German Shepherd. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in any of the breeds in the hybrid. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.
Kai the Norwegian Elkhound / German Shepherd mix breed dog at 4 years old—"Kai is my German Shepherd/Norwegian Elkhound mix. Her mother was the German Shepherd and her father the Elkhound. Both parents were purebred. She is a great dog. Kai is friendly towards people and great with children and babies. She is reserved with other dogs. If she knows the dog then, she will be friendly. She is not aggressive towards them, just shy. I live on a farm and she is great with my goats, horses, chickens, and cats. If I need them herded, she will help. She is also very protective when the situation calls for it. Her fur is soft and silky like the Elkhounds, but sheds like a Shepherd."
