Breton Grande Y Grato (Australia) the Pyrenean Mastiff
pahyuhr-neen Mah-stif
The Pyrenean Mastiff has a dense, double coat. Coat colors include white with brown, gray and black spots.
A brave, gentle, calm giant. They are protective over their families. Very loyal and good with children.
Height: male 30-31 inches (76-79 cm) female 25-30 inches (63-76 cm)
Weight: 120-240 pounds (54-109 kg)
Generally healthy
The Pyrenean Mastiff will do okay in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. They are relatively inactive indoors and a small yard is sufficient.
The Pyrenean Mastiff is quite content to laze around the house, but still needs to be taken on a daily walk. While out on the walk the dog must be made to heel beside or behind the person holding the lead, as in a dog's mind the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human. It will enjoy frequent opportunities to swim and frolic.
About 10-13 years
About 5-10 puppies
Regular brushing of the long double coat will keep it in good condition, but extra care is needed when the dog is shedding its dense undercoat. The outer coat does not mat unless there is a burr, foxtail or some other outside object that gets stuck to the coat. Bathe or dry shampoo only when necessary. The Pyrenean Mastiff sheds its coat twice a year. They tend to drool.
