I have a few bright orange Goebel dogs and they are all in the same condition. The crown mark is the Goebel trademark 1 logo. Shown is an occupied Japan vintage Standard Schnauzer porcelain figurine. This little dog is hand painted and is in very good condition. After World War II between 1945 and 1952, items imported from Japan to the United States had to be marked in a fashion indicating they came from Japan. During that time there were four different ways items were being marked; they were 'Japan,' 'Made in Japan,' 'Occupied Japan,' and 'Made in Occupied Japan'. However, only the marks 'Occupied Japan' and 'Made in Occupied Japan' are clear indications that the piece was made during that timeframe and most hobbyists look for the latter two marks when collecting.

This is an odd looking Miniature Schnauzer figurine. It's made out of what appears to be some type of clay; reminds me of play dough almost. Perhaps some type of ceramic? If you touch your tongue to it you can taste salt (not recommended). Therefore I am going with some type of play dough mixture. Yet it feels hard like ceramic. It is unfinished with no glaze. The only paint I see is a dot of black on the eyes. I bought it at a flea market in the 1990s. It was used at the time so the age of it is unknown. It is unmarked so the maker is also unknown. Whatever it is, it's majestic looking and very unique. It stands 2 1/2 inches tall, 1 inch long and 1 1/2 inches wide.
