Lola the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier / Shar Pei mix at 1 1/2 years old—"Lola was ten months old when we adopted her. We were told that she had been brought to the centre as her owner was too ill to look after her. One of the staff at the shelter informed me that when she was brought in, she was in a terrible state. The day before she was brought into the centre, she had been spayed and had had an operation on her eye to remove an in growing eyelash that had become infected. Also, she was so frightened, that for the first two weeks of her time at the shelter, she would growl and bark at anyone who tried to approach her. One of the home visitors described her as "being scared off her own shadow". The centre did wonderful work with her and with their kindness, determination and patience, once they had gained her trust, they realised that she was a friendly, playful, bubbly and spirited dog who just needed the right family to bond with and to continue to help her to feel confident and secure."

Description

The Wheaten Pei is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Shar Pei and the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.

"Seven months on and Lola now has the most wonderful temperament. She is very happy and healthy as you can see from the pictures. Lola is very loyal, sociable, confident, affectionate, bright and alert and easy to train. I would describe her as a kind dog. She is also very protective of her family. She is an extremely well balanced dog and a joy to share our lives with."

"Lola likes kisses and cuddles, chasing pigeons and being in the garden. On a sunny day, she likes nothing better than walking through the park and taking a dip in the pond, swimming and playing games with all the other dogs."

"Lola now weighs about twenty eight pounds. She is very strong and a great swimmer. Amazingly, her fur is almost water repellent and dries very quickly. Another thing I've noticed about her fur is, she doesn't seem to moult and she doesn't have a strong doggy smell at all. In fact, she always smells good."
