Moe the Jaland (Japanese Chin / Westie mix)
"This is my dog Moe. He is a Japanese Chin / West Highland Terrier Mix (Jaland) at 22 months old, weighing 20 pounds."
"Description: This little dog has a short, broad face with a soft-feather coat. His nose is wide, nostrils open with a short nasal canal. He has expressive, protruding eyes that are dark and round. His teeth form an undershot bite. His coat is brindle with larger white patches over his chest, paws and under his chin. His ears are upside-down, V-shaped and are covered with hair. His legs are straight and fine-boned. His tail is long, soft and fluffy and hangs down behind him unless he is wagging it.
The Jaland is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Japanese Chin and the Westie. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.
Temperament: Lovable, playful, pleasant, intelligent, gentle, alert, very friendly toward strangers and other dogs and animals. He is very easy to train and housebreak, loves companionship, easy to travel with and doesn’t bark unless he is trying to alert us of something. (My dog barks when the doorbell rings or someone knocks.) He is very easy to bathe and control and is mild mannered. He is also sweet-tempered, easy-going and self-confident.
"Likes: Enjoys being taught tricks, loves companionship, loves to play catch, loves to lie on grass in the sunshine, loves to be elevated and look out of windows. He loves to play with toys and balls.
"Good habits: Gentle, good with children, gets along well with other dogs, playful, friendly, loves to be held and cuddled.
"Living conditions: Suited for people in towns or cities. He is very active indoors and does okay without a yard. He is sensitive to warm temperatures and will try to find a cool place to lie down, as he prefers cool temperatures. In the summer he likes to lie on the cool tile floor.
"How much exercise: He enjoys daily walks. Loves to run in a large fenced-in yard when given the chance.
"Health: Prone to hernias, allergies, and tend to wheeze and snore."
