Oreo is a black Lab / Akita mix. She is 5 years old and weighs about 60 lbs. She is affectionate to her owners, very friendly to friends and very sweet around people, but protective when necessary around those she does not know. She is still quite energetic, very puppy-like even at 5 years of age. She does have a tendency to catch colds easily and has skin allergies, traits I believe come from her Akita side. Her face structure is a unique mix of both the Lab and Akita. Her ears point up by nature, and her nose is a bit shorter and wider like that of the Akita, and she has the Akita eyes, but when she lays her ears back (they constantly move according to her mood) she looks very much like a black Lab. She has a curly tail that obviously tells of her Akita heritage. Her mentality is that of the loving nature of the black Lab and the safeguarding nature of the Akita. She has a bit more solid build than the average Lab, with the barrel chest of the Akita and the short muscular legs. She has almost a total black coat/undercoat with a splash of white swirls across her chest and stomach, and a pair of white gloves on her front paws. She sheds like a Lab, with 2 big sheddings a year and a normal amounts of shedding the rest of the year.
Labrakita is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Akita and the Labrador Retriever. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.

This is my Akitador (an Akita / Labrador Retriever mix). He is 4 months old in this picture, and his name is Kai. Kai was rescued by a veterinary hospital when his entire litter was abandoned at 2 weeks of age. He joined my family at 13 weeks of age.
