Keaton the German Shepherd / Shih Tzu mix breed dog at 1 year old—"Keaton responds very well to commands such as "Come here", "Sit (with and without the closed hand gesture)", lay down. He pulls a lot on his leash and we are still working with him to walk nicely. He HATES Squeaking toys, loves tug o war ropes and is not a huge ball fan. In fact unless you wrestle with him, are running outside or playing tug o war he's pretty docile. He is strong. He can pull my boyfriend and I like we were nothing. He is a FAST runner, and has a very strong sense of smell. He responds very well to a whistle or calling his name is he is a hundred or so metres away- and comes bolting towards you. We give Keaton about 2 1/2 to 3 hours (combined) of walking, running and play exercise outside everyday. He is people friendly and has never shown aggression to any person or animal."
The Shepherd Tzu is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Shih Tzu and the German Shepherd. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.
