This is Bud. He is an 18-month-old Kelpie / Blue Heeler cross.
The Kelpie Heeler is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Australian Kelpie and the Australian Cattle Dog. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all of these designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses.
Note: the Australian Cattle Dog is also called Australian Heeler, Hall's Heeler, Queensland Heeler, Blue Heeler, Red Heeler, Australian Cattledog and Australischer Treibhund.

Gizmo the Australian Kelpie / Australian Cattle Dog mix as a puppy at 10 weeks old—"This is Gizmo and the cat Jasper when he was just a puppy. They get along really well. Gizmo is great with my 3 cats and when we had rats he was fine with them, too. He is almost psychotic with his ball. If anyone is outside they have got to throw it for him. He will not stop. I have played ball with him for 3 hours on end and he still wants to go."
